In June of 2013, Lyric Performing Arts Academy (LPAA) was founded by three African American women (all Oakland natives) to provide Oakland youth with purposeful and affordable music, theatre and dance education in their neighborhood. Blessed to open the business with extremely limited resources, we are now in a position to expand our services. Lyric Performing Arts Academy offers classes to students in spite of their family's ability to pay. We have students who have been in foster care, who have survived physical and sexual abuse, and whose parents are drug addicts. We know that without guidance and stability, these talented students can easily fall through the cracks. This is where our wonderful donors come in. With more resources, we can reach even more students. Since many of our students receive scholarships, we are not receiving the income we would if they were being charged full price for their classes. With your help, however, we can expand our services and continue doing the work we were called to do.
